Domestic Workers in India Shockingly Underpaid
Since there is no nationwide policy on minimum wages for domestic helps, about 20 million people, mostly women, who work as cooks, cleaners, and maids in India get paid Rs.3,000 per month on an average, while their US counterparts average about $11 per hour. Salaries in Kolkata is 20 to 40 percent lower than in Mumbai or Delhi.
