Former Miss Turkey Convicted for Insulting President
A Turkish court found a former Miss Turkey competition winner, Merve Buyuksarac, guilty of insulting President Recep Tayyip Erdogan on social media, handing her a suspended sentence of 14 months. The satirical poem Buyuksarac posted on her Instagram account criticises the Turkish president with verses adapted from the national anthem.
