1503 Wreckage: Vasco da Gama's Esmeralda found off Oman
It has been determined the debris found off the Oman coast came from a long-missing ship, Esmeralda, one of two lost in the storm from da Gama's second voyage to India in 1503. Divers discovered an incredibly rare silver coin called an Indio, forged in 1499 after da Gama's first Indian voyage helps date wreckage.
